Changing Perspectives - Access Abisko Values

The dynamics of nature’s contribution to people in a changing climate

Home: Welcome

About

Bridging social sciences, natural sciences and arts

Changing Perspectives - Assess Abisko Values is a collaboration between social sciences, natural sciences and arts to assess a new concept, termed ‘Nature’s Contribution to People’ (NCPs) and protect and improve the environments which support human life. We will be engaging citizen science, participatory ethnographic research, sound and visual arts projects in Abisko. This is an Arctic area of Sweden with vulnerable ecosystems and diverse, small community groups that are experiencing socio-environmental changes. It focuses on non-monetary valuation, context-dependency, interconnectedness with the wider ecology and individuality of cultural values.

By crossing conventional disciplinary boundaries, we experiment with a fusion of artistic and scientific participatory methods to encourage greater awareness and understanding of NCPs among the communities in the Abisko area and the general public.

Changing Perspectives is partly funded by the Access Abisko 2022 grant from the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat.
